Editorially reviewed: 1 November 2026. Practical guidance from SkyJobs; the employer’s current advert controls each application.
Preparing a CV and an application letter for jobs in Zambia is easier when both documents come from the same evidence sheet. The CV records your relevant background; the letter explains why that background fits this particular role. Keep a master record, but make the application specific to the employer, work location and instructions in the advert.
Capture the vacancy before it disappears
Save the complete advert, including its reference, duty station, qualifications, experience, application method and closing date. A Lusaka office role and a Copperbelt or North-Western Province site role may involve very different travel and attendance arrangements. Do not assume that an employer’s head-office address is the place where you will work. Ask the published contact if the advert is unclear.
Build the CV around verifiable information
Begin with reliable contact details and a concise statement of the type of work you can do. List employment with real job titles and dates. Describe tasks in language a recruiter can assess: records maintained, systems used, equipment handled or customers supported. Name qualifications exactly as issued, and label unfinished studies accurately. Include a licence or registration only if you hold it and it is relevant to the advertised work.
Write evidence instead of copying keywords
For a logistics example, a useful sentence might explain how you checked goods against delivery notes and recorded discrepancies. For a technical example, describe the equipment, procedure and supervision involved. Adapt the structure to work you have genuinely done. Do not copy an impressive sample achievement or percentage that does not belong to you. Someone reviewing the CV should be able to understand your individual contribution.
Use a short, specific application letter
Open with the exact role and reference. In the next paragraph, connect two or three important requirements to evidence in your CV. Explain relevant availability or location arrangements briefly. End by identifying the documents you are providing and a reliable way to contact you. If the employer requests a particular form or portal statement rather than a letter, follow that instruction instead of sending an extra document automatically.
Adaptable email opening
Subject: Application for [job title] – [reference]
Dear [named contact or recruitment team],
I am applying for the advertised [role]. My experience in [relevant task] and training in [actual qualification or skill] relate to the requirements in your notice. I have attached [only the requested files]. My contact details and employment history appear in the attached CV.
Kind regards,
[your name and telephone number]
The bracketed text is a writing template, not a vacancy announcement. Replace every placeholder, add the evidence that matters to your application, and remove any sentence that is not true. A portal may require separate fields instead of an email; do not email an enquiry address when applications must be submitted online.
Verify the application route
Use the employer’s own career page or the route named in a verified original advert. For mining applications, the First Quantum careers page provides an official starting point and recruitment-fraud guidance. Its advice applies to its own recruitment; it does not establish the rules of another employer or announce a current apprenticeship intake. Check the exact role, country and deadline before proceeding.
Prepare attachments without oversharing
Follow the requested document types, size limits and certification instructions. Do not attach a full identity-document collection to an unverified first-contact message. Ask references for permission before sharing their contacts. Open each attachment after export; a file that looks correct in the editor may have missing pages or unreadable scans. Keep a copy of the package you actually sent.
Submit with time to resolve problems
An application saved as a portal draft is not necessarily submitted. Look for confirmation and keep it with the advert. Submit early enough to handle a slow connection, a rejected file or a bounced email. Never pay a contact who promises selection, and do not share banking passwords or one-time codes with a purported recruiter.
Before pressing Send
- Correct employer, role, location and reference.
- Two or three truthful examples address the essential criteria.
- CV, letter and online profile use the same dates and qualification names.
- Only the requested, readable attachments are included.
- The application is going to the verified route before the deadline.
Download your application planning checklist
