Role Summary

African Parks (AP) is hiring a Community Development Officer for Greater Kafue Landscape Limited to advance regional community governance, sustainable enterprises, conservation education, and resource management across designated Game Management Areas. The successful candidate will foster positive relations with local stakeholders, drive ecological awareness, and support livelihood initiatives in a remote field setting.

Core Duties

The incumbent will mentor local governance groups, deliver structured training on administrative standards and financial oversight, and facilitate Village Land Use Planning. Responsibilities include advancing nature-based enterprises, supporting fisheries initiatives, mitigating human-wildlife friction, and conducting environmental outreach in local schools. The role also requires asset tracking, reporting, and representing the department during stakeholder engagements.

Qualifications & Requirements

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Rural Development, Community Development, Wildlife Management, or a comparable discipline, accompanied by a Grade 12 School Certificate. Essential criteria include practical background collaborating with rural populations and governance boards in Zambia, familiarity with resource management frameworks, and proficiency in facilitating multi-stakeholder sessions. Applicants require a clean driving record, a current Zambian driver’s licence, and the resilience to operate in isolated field environments. Familiarity with local ecosystems and motorcycle operation is considered beneficial.
